Outside groups spent close to $2 million on new television advertisements in the U.S. Senate race. One is from anti-abortion forces and the other from the nation's largest teachers union.
The National Education Association's Advocacy Fund says it's spending $1.2 million, with a television commercial airing Tuesday in all media markets and digital ads on social media sites like Facebook. The campaign features a teacher blaming Republican candidate Thom Tillis for cuts to local schools. This is the group's second ad.
The Women Speak Out PAC says it began spending $620,000 on an ad running in around Raleigh critical of Sen. Kay Hagan's (D-NC) opposition to a bill last fall that would have banned later-term abortions. The ad is similar to one the group ran in the summer.
