Millennials, those ages 18 to 34, have been flooding the job market over the last decade.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts this generation to make up 75 percent of the total work force by 2030. But many of them have been leaving North Carolina to chase career opportunities in other states.

WFDD contributor Justin Catanoso writes about the ongoing battle to attract and retain these young professionals in his recent column in the Triad Business Journal. “The Triad has made a lot of progress over the last several years to the point of supporting the growth of the creative class, including those in design, technology, communication and the arts,” he says.

“If you look at the support organizations and amenities in downtown Winston-Salem and Greensboro that have cropped up, suddenly you see we have accelerator labs, we've got funding opportunities for entrepreneurs, we have business incubators.  It's starting to build the infrastructure that the creative class wants,” says Catanoso.
