What makes the Eastern Music Festival one of the country's outstanding summer educational institutions and performance festivals?
Eastern Music Festival's mission is to promote musical enrichment, excellence, professional collaboration, innovation and diversity through a nationally-recognized teaching program, music festival, concerts and other programs which will enhance the quality of life, health and vitality of our region.
The 53rd annual Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro drew to a close last month with a spectacular concluding concert by the Eastern Festival Orchestra led by EMF Music Director Gerard Schwarz. Internationally renowned violin soloist James Ehnes joined the ensemble for a stunning performance of Camille Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3, and the season closer was Ottorino Respighi's epic symphonic poem Pines of Rome.
The EMF experience itself is a unique one for the student musicians, faculty, soloists, and audience members who attend each year. Their worlds often overlap in surprising ways: a student finds herself performing in the orchestra alongside her teacher, or alone on stage during a master class with a longtime musical idol the stature of a James Ehnes; an EMF faculty member plays chamber music with a world famous solo artist; an audience member interacts directly with the musicians who moments ago electrified Dana Auditorium.
