Guilford County Employees See Lower Raises

Hundreds of Guilford County employees are finding out their pay raises will only be half of what they were expecting. 

Guilford County Commissioners approved a plan in June to implement $2 million in raises for county employees. The News & Record of Greensboro reports that the plan turned out to be more expensive than commissioners thought, totaling closer to $2.4 million.

The shortfall led to lower raises than expected for about 75 percent of Guilford County employees. Some who were told they would get 3 percent raises only got 1.5 percent, and some who were expecting a 1.5 percent raise saw theirs cut in half also.

The original raises were implemented following a pay study by the Piedmont Triad Regional Council. In June, County Commissioners also changed the county's merit pay, decreasing the amount from $1.2 million to $600,000.

According to the News & Record, more than 2,200 people work for Guilford County.
