Over 100 original pieces of art have been framed and hung throughout the halls of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools central office buildings.
The artists are students from all 81 schools in the district. District officials say art teachers from each school submitted the pieces for the installation.
On Jan. 31, the district is hosting an art gallery opening to celebrate the student artists and their families.
Superintendent Tricia McManus spoke about the event during a Board of Education meeting last week.
“We're very excited about something, first time ever, if you walk into our central office buildings and this one as well, you're going to start seeing the halls beautifully decorated with the artwork of our students,” McManus said.
The majority of the art displayed in the district's Administrative Center is two-dimensional. There are drawings, paintings, and mixed media pieces in a wide range of styles hung on nearly every available wall space. On the third floor of the building, there is also a cabinet with a few sculptural pieces, including a small house made of cardboard.
Most of the art is located in the Administrative Center, but there are a few pieces in the district’s Education Building as well.
“As any visitors come to our offices, I hope you'll stop by and see the beautiful artwork of our students,” McManus said. “We've got such talented artists.”
The work will be on display in the offices for the rest of the year. After that, the district intends to install a new round of original art and continue to update the gallery periodically.
