A Summerfield developer is moving forward with plans to have Greensboro annex around 80 acres of land for the first phase of a long-discussed mixed-use development.

The land is a portion of nearly 1,000 acres removed from the town of Summerfield last year. The state legislature stepped in after years of back-and-forth between developer David Couch and local officials.

Guilford County finalized the initial zoning for the land in December. Now, Couch is hoping to move forward with the first phase of his project.

Pat Ryan, a spokesperson for Couch, says the project aims to fill a need.

"David's design includes a mix of housing types that are accessible to, or will be accessible to, people in different income bands, from apartments to large houses," he says.

Ryan says this phase will be named Christopher Village. It will include 268 dwelling units.

The annexation request is expected to appear before the Greensboro Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 17.
