Two People Charged In Connection With Shooting On Wake Forest University Campus

Police have identified three people with possible connections to the homicide of 21-year-old Winston-Salem State University student Najee Ali Baker.

Baker was shot and killed while attending a party on the Wake Forest University campus on Jan. 20th.

On Tuesday, Winston-Salem Police released photos to the public showing three men entering the facility on the Reynolda campus where the altercation prior to the murder occured.

Authorities have located and interviewed two of the men from those photos.

One has been identified as 16-year-old Malik Patience Smith. Smith is accused of pointing a firearm at 24-year-old Juan Mortimer. The incident occurred in close proximity to the murder of Najee Ali Baker.  The firearm was not discharged and Mortimer was not injured during the encounter.

Smith is charged with possession of a handgun by a minor, assault by pointing a gun, and possession of a firearm on educational property.  He's being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond.  

The second man has been located and interviewed by detectives, but is not implicated in the crime. He's considered to be a witness and his identity has not been revealed.

Authorities are still searching for the third man, 21-year-old Jakier Shanique Austin. Police have obtained warrants for arrest charging Austin with murder and possession of a firearm on educational property.

Austin is approximately 5'10”, 160 pounds, and has tattoos on both arms.
