United Way of Forsyth County to reduce funding for partner agencies

United Way of Forsyth County announced this week it is cutting funding to its partner agencies in order to balance its budget.

According to a news release, the group is reducing its contributions due to a decline in fundraising revenue over the past decade.

United Way of Forsyth County President and CEO Antonia Monk Richburg says the change means their 40 partner agencies will receive around 42% less funding on average.

"Over the course of the last four to five years we've been very generous in terms of what we've given out but it has not necessarily aligned with what we brought in," she says.

Richburg explained United Way has seen fewer donations over that time in part due to larger companies leaving Winston-Salem. And she says this year more people are giving to political campaigns.

She says the shift will ensure the organization remains financially sustainable and able to serve the community.
