The University of Oregon softball team is going to the “NCAA Super Regional” after winning the Regional final Saturday in Eugene. The Ducks defeated Big 10 Conference Champions Wisconsin.

Oregon State played in the NCAA Softball Tournament Missouri Regional this weekend. They lost their opening game to Hofstra on Friday. Then they gained momentum Saturday morning with a win over Stony Brook.

But they faced Hofstra again later in the day, losing for the second time, and ending their post season bid.

Ducks head coach Mike White seemed pleased after Saturday’s game.

“I thought we battled very well. It’s probably one of our best offensive performances, even though we only got three hits.”

It helps when two of those hits were home runs. The first came in the second inning when U of O center fielder Samantha Pappas sent the ball into the bleachers in left-center field, giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead. The score remained that close until the top of the 7th and final inning, when Oregon’s Janelle Lindvall line-drived another home run to right. That and some inspired defense gave the Ducks a 3-0 cushion, enough to seal the home win at the Eugene regional of the NCAA Tournament.

“All in all, it was a good tournament for us. We played well. We got better at the tournament went along. We got some good fan support.”

Now the Ducks have a week off to prepare for the Super Regional, which is also going to be played in Eugene at the University of Oregon’s Howe Field. They’ll play the winner of the Nebraska Regional.
