The upward trend of COVID-19 cases in Guilford County is slowly decreasing just as the updated vaccines are becoming available. County commissioners received an update on the latest numbers on Thursday.
Public Health Director Dr. Iulia Vann says vaccines will be free for those insured, and anyone over the age of six months will be eligible. Vann says the health department will be able to provide vaccinations for uninsured individuals once they are available.
"October is typically the ideal time to start getting that vaccine to protect you throughout the season," she says.
The state Department of Health and Human Services measures COVID levels through wastewater and hospitalizations. According to its data, Greensboro is currently in the sixty to seventy-ninth percentile.
Earlier this month it was in the eighty to one-hundredth percentile, which is the highest level of detection.
Vann says officials will continue to watch trends as the holidays approach.
