For Slate.com blogger Mickey Kaus, it wasn't what Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday night, so much as what she didn't say. Like guests who don't show up at a party, it only began to bother him much later — when the buzz was over — that something was absent.

In his late-night voice mail from the Democratic National Convention, he reflects on the fact that the following statements never showed up in Clinton's speech:

--"Obama won fair and square."

--"Things get a little rough in the course of a campaign, and I said some things in the heat of battle."

--"I came to respect Barack Obama for his epic judgment and legislative skills."

--"He's ready to lead as commander in chief."
