More than 700 students and parents will spend their Sunday mingling with doctors and getting hands-on experience with cutting edge medical technology and practices in Greensboro.

They’ll be attending an event called the Youth White Coat Summit on the North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University campus. The summit was first hosted in 2023 by the Foundation for the Development of Minority Physicians.

Dr. Tiffany Randolph, a cardiologist with Cone Health and a founding member of the foundation, says the summit is meant to do more than just inspire students.

"So we want them to get a chance to see people from a diverse background, who may look like them, who are actively pursuing careers in medicine and dentistry so that they can sort of have this spark and the understanding that this is something they can do too if they desire," Randolph says. "But we also want them to have not just an aspirational experience but a hands-on experience."

The summit will feature anatomy labs and simulations involving surgical robots and treatments for heart, brain and spine issues among others.

Medical professionals will also host discussion panels on dental and medical school admissions, career planning and maintaining emotional health.
