The Winston-Salem Dash announced Wednesday it has entered an agreement to sell the franchise to the company Diamond Baseball Holdings, marking the beginning of a new era for the minor league team.
According to a news release, Diamond Baseball Holdings, or DBH, is an organization that owns 29 teams nationwide including two others in North Carolina.
Dash President and General Manager Brian DeAngelis says the Dash has done a good job adding amenities like improving the kid zone and a new left field bar. But DBH will help them take a giant leap in the next few years.
"They've had a long history of investing into the communities and into the ballparks that they have ownership stakes within," DeAngelis says. "I think the fans are going to start to see some of those things here at our ballpark."
He says the baseball club views itself as a community center for everybody.
According to the news release, the Dash have been in Winston-Salem since 1945 and became an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox in 1997. The city will continue to own and lease Truist Stadium to the new owner.
Opening day for the Dash is April 9. That same day the City Council Finance Committee will review proposed lease modifications between Winston-Salem and DBH.
If approved the City Council would next hold a public hearing on the Truist Stadium lease on April 15.
