Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will soon have a new leader. The district tapped Dr. Kenneth Simington to serve as interim superintendent as the search for a permanent replacement moves forward.

Simington is no a stranger to the school system. He spent most of his more than 30-year career with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, serving in various leadership roles. In 2016, he became Deputy Superintendent.

Simington is also a graduate of the school system. He attended Carver High School and graduated from East Forsyth.

“I am thankful to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education for the opportunity to serve during this time. I look forward to working with all of our students, families, teachers, administrators, staff, and the community. It is important that the district stays focused on the work ahead for the best outcomes for our students,” says Simington.

He'll replace Beverly Emory who resigned earlier this month to join the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

“Dr. Simington's institutional knowledge and personal reputation as a man of integrity and well-deserved respect make him uniquely qualified to step into the Interim Superintendent's role as the district approaches budget and hiring season,” she says.

Simington's first official day is March 1.

The school board says it will begin working on the selection process and timeline for hiring a permanent replacement in the coming weeks.
