World Cafe Next: The Mystery Lights

Daptone Records, known for recording blues, R&B and funk artists like Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, has entered into the world of rock music with a new offshoot: Wick Records. Wick's label debut, from Queens-based garage-rock band The Mystery Lights, definitely sets the standard.

Originally from Salinas, Calif., The Mystery Lights now make their home in New York, where they combine the aesthetic of that city's downtown dwellers (like The Velvet Underground) with a present-day urgency. Hear two songs, "Too Many Girls" and "Without Me," in this segment.
