Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools announced it’s experiencing a high number of flu cases. 

District officials are asking families to keep children home from school if they’re sick. Students should only return if their symptoms have improved for 24 hours, and they’re fever-free without the use of medication.

Schools are also being encouraged to clean more frequently and enhance ventilation. 

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the state has been seeing a steady rise in emergency department visits for influenza-like illnesses. 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends staying up to date with immunizations and practicing good hygiene to prevent contracting a respiratory virus.
