A Winston-Salem student wanted for a shooting on the school's campus last week has turned himself in.
Ja'lon Stallings, a 19-year-old student at the school, was arrested Monday and charged with several felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and discharge of a firearm on educational property. He also faces misdemeanor drug possession charges.
The arrest comes after Winston-Salem Police were dispatched to WSSU on Friday. Police say they found 22-year-old Juscin Fulmore, who is not a current student, suffering from gunshot wounds in a study room. According to WSPD, he is currently in stable condition.
Police say they believe an altercation led to the shooting.
Following an investigation, law enforcement also executed two search warrants on campus over the weekend. Police seized over nine pounds of marijuana, a firearm, THC edibles, money and drug paraphernalia.
WSSU Chancellor Bonita Brown said in a statement Monday the school is reviewing safety protocols and increasing security presence to further protect the campus.
"While this incident is both troubling and unacceptable, we are grateful for the quick actions of our campus police and local authorities," Brown said.
A magistrate determined that Stallings would not be eligible for bail.
