The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education recently approved an academic calendar for next year that has school starting two weeks early. Now the district says it will be lenient on absences as families adjust. 

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education voted to approve an academic calendar with an earlier start and end date, which will be out of compliance with state law. Several other North Carolina districts are making the same move. 

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is looking for feedback regarding three potential academic calendar options for next school year. One of them deviates from state requirements in order to start school roughly two weeks earlier.
