The Wake Forest University School of Medicine has received a major grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust for a project aimed at reducing disparities in birth outcomes. 

A former mentor at a Winston-Salem middle school was arrested and charged with felony sex offenses on Tuesday. He was part of a program that was terminated last year, following allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student. 

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools superintendent convened with Black-led educational advocacy group Action4Equity, and other local organizations on Monday to discuss racial disparities in school discipline.  The press conference was sparked by a report published last week from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.

Local education leaders came together for a roundtable discussion at the Forsyth County Central Library Monday evening to talk about how recent legislation will impact public schools.

Local nonprofit Action4Equity is asking the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education to reconsider the termination of their mentorship program contract. 

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School District has canceled a $1.4 million contract with local nonprofit Action4Equity for a mentorship pilot program.
