Akai Gurley's Family Settles With New York City Over Police Shooting Death

The family will receive more than $4 million from the city. Gurley was killed in 2014 by rookie Officer Peter Liang, who was later convicted of criminally negligent homicide and fired from the NYPD.

The prosecutor, who had previously recommended Liang not serve any jail time, said the fatal shooting of Akai Gurley was "not police brutality." Liang's defense attorney called it a "tragic accident."
