bus driver shortage

Guilford County Schools, like other districts in the state, is facing challenges in filling bus driver vacancies. Officials say changes need to be made at the state level to tackle the problem. 

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education held a forum to hear from middle schoolers on Tuesday. Transportation was a big topic. 

With less than a week before the start of the new academic year, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has made some progress in filling teacher vacancies.

WS/FCS Superintendent Tricia McManus said more than 200 bus runs will be late in the mornings and afternoons by 15 minutes or more. That will impact thousands of students.

Schools across North Carolina are struggling with a bus driver shortage.  The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School district says it's down to between 35 to 40 drivers.
