She made her way into the record books last week after becoming the first woman to climb the Golden Gate route of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in a little over 21 hours.

Climber Ryan Sheridan had just reached the top of El Capitan when a new rock slide let loose below him on Thursday.

Another, larger chunk has fallen off the monolith rising over Yosemite Valley in California. One injury is reported. In yesterday's fall at the same place, one climber was killed and one injured.

A statement from the California park says a rockfall of undetermined size fell from El Capitan, apparently from the Waterfall Route, popular with climbers.

Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson were the first climbers to use only their hands and feet to ascend the nearly 3,000-foot Dawn Wall in a single trip. Ropes were used only to break a fall.

Tommy Caldwell says he prefers to climb at night when the rock is cooler, his hands sweat less and the friction is better. He and Kevin Jorgeson have been trying for seven years to scale the whole Dawn Wall in one shot.
