Authorities said they do not know the cause of the hot air balloon accident at the time. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

One of New Mexico's marquee ballooning events also include its share of close calls.

Investigators found the pilot was impaired by medical conditions and drugs including Valium, oxycodone and Benadryl. The FAA doesn't require medical certification for commercial balloon operators.
