The guest list includes a woman whose sister was killed in the Uvalde shooting, the United Auto Workers president, and a naval officer who helped protect ships from Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.

The state visit for Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was planned months ago. But the Middle East crisis prompted the White House to change the tenor of the event.

When first lady Jill Biden went for routine surgery for a small lesion above her right eye, doctors found two more lesions, and removed them, too, the White House said.

The White House says more than 150 volunteers decorated the building for a week to put together this year's holiday decorations. First lady Jill Biden selected a theme of "We the People."

The first lady first tested positive on Aug. 16 and she remained in isolation for five days, undergoing a course of Paxlovid treatment. She tested positive again Wednesday and does not have symptoms.
