More than 50 people were killed and many injured when an explosion rocked an illegal oil refinery in southeastern Nigeria, state officials and police said Saturday.
The blasts were the result of a fire that is "confined and being addressed, but it is not under control," a Philadelphia fire official said. The incident prompted a brief shelter-in-place order.
The evacuation zone had extended for miles. The Canadian-owned refinery processes crude from the Canadian tar sands in Alberta and from North Dakota's Bakken shale oil fields.
