Pakistan Taliban

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack that killed Haroon Bilour, a senior member of the Awami National Party (ANP), who was a candidate for a seat in the provincial legislature.

An attacker struck the emergency ward of a hospital in the western city of Quetta, capital of the province of Baluchistan, which is home to a number of militant groups. Nearly 100 people were injured.

Pakistan's security forces have been waging an offensive against the Taliban since 2014 and have diminished the radical Islamist group. Sunday's bombing showed the country remains vulnerable.
