Juan David Ortiz, 35, is being held in Laredo, Texas, after a would-be victim escaped from him and alerted police. Ortiz is thought to have killed four women over a two-week period.

Joseph James DeAngelo has been charged with eight murders, and is suspected in dozens of other crimes. He had recently retired after working 27 years in a supermarket distribution center.

Authorities suspect Bruce McArthur is responsible for the murders of at least five men. Remains of at least one of them have been found buried at the bottom of a garden planter.

In his trial, Niels Högel admitted to intentionally inducing cardiac arrest in many patients. He said he enjoyed trying to revive his patients, but sometimes failed.

On Friday, Todd Kohlhepp was sentenced to seven consecutive life terms — as well as 60 years in prison for other crimes — in a plea bargain.

A former nurse's aide who was convicted of killing 37 people in Ohio and Kentucky in the 1970s and '80s died Thursday, two days after he was attacked and beaten in his prison cell.

If Elizabeth Tracey Mae Wettlaufer, 49, is found guilty, she would be one of the worst serial killers in Canada's history. Police say the victims were administered a drug.

Suspect Darren Vann confessed to one murder, with which he has been charged, and subsequently led police to six other corpses in northwestern Indiana, authorities say.
