Land of Oz, which first opened in 1970, offers an immersive theatrical experience of the classic film during its three-weekend Autumn at Oz festival each September. WFDD’s April Laissle followed Dorothy’s journey through Kansas, Oz and the Emerald City for this installment of Piedmont Pit Stops.

The case stumped law enforcement for years, despite conducting multiple interviews and identifying suspects. The pair of shoes now rests in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.

The FBI says it has recovered a pair of ruby slippers worn in The Wizard of Oz that were stolen from a Minnesota museum in 2005. One of several pairs of slippers worn by Judy Garland in the movie are seen here in 1996.

The sequined shoes were pilfered from the Judy Garland Museum in 2005. Investigators had pursued a range of leads — including an abandoned Minnesota mine — ever since.

The Smithsonian is raising funds to preserve one of its most popular and iconic exhibits: a pair of Dorothy's ruby slippers.

The National Museum of American History says it will cost $300,000 to protect the aging shoes from The Wizard of Oz. A Kickstarter campaign launched three days ago has already raised nearly $200,000.
