McCrory Signs Flurry Of New Bills

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has put his signature to more than a dozen additional bills, including those addressing an upcoming voter identification requirement and sitting at convenience stores with biscuits and coffee.

McCrory announced Wednesday he had signed into law 12 pieces of legislation. The list didn't mention a bill signed Monday that will allow more registered voters to vote in person even without a qualifying form of photo ID. McCrory's office said last week he would sign that measure.

Another new law allows certain food businesses to provide tables and some seats for customers to eat and drink what they purchased and avoid some requirements restaurants must meet.

Hagan Will Not Run Again For U.S. Senate

Former U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan says there's still much work ahead to help North Carolina residents, but she won't be trying to go back to Washington for another six-year term to do it.

The Greensboro Democrat released a statement Wednesday confirming she would not attempt to challenge Republican incumbent Sen. Richard Burr next year. A person familiar with Hagan's situation told The Associated Press of her decision Tuesday night.

Hagan lost her seat to Thom Tillis in 2014. She wrote on her campaign's Facebook page that her position "going forward is as a citizen of our great state and not as an elected U.S. senator."

Officials: Fire At Black Charlotte Church Deliberately Set

Investigators with the Charlotte Fire Department say a fire at a predominantly black church is a case of arson.

A statement from the fire department said it took about an hour to get Wednesday morning's fire at Briar Creek Road Baptist Church under control. Two firefighters were treated for heat-related injuries.

Officials aren't saying what evidence exists to show the fire was intentionally set.

The church building sustained excessive damage to the area used as an education building.
