NFL Copes With Another Tragedy

For a second straight week, the world of football is coping with sad news. Two Dallas Cowboys players were involved in a one-car accident. One of the players was killed; the driver was arrested for drunk driving. This comes on the heels of last week's murder-suicide involving a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Spelman College has dropped NCAA athletics in favor of a comprehensive fitness program. The school now offers classes like Zumba to help encourage all students to exercise more.

Officials at Spelman College, a historically black women's college in Atlanta, have decided to scrap the school's NCAA program. With few students participating in organized sports, the college has decided to devote those funds to a fitness program designed to reach the entire student body.

Star 19th Century barehanded catcher Deacon White was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Monday. White played from 1871-1890, logging 2,067 hits in 1,560 games. He gained fame in the days when catchers wore no gear and the job required a substantial amount of courage.
