If you’re driving into downtown Winston-Salem next Thursday, be sure to bring your smartphone.
Starting May 1, paying for parking in the area will be a little different with the launch of the Pay-By-Phone system.
According to a press release, signs announcing the new digital payment method have taken over the spaces once held by traditional parking meters.
Drivers can also expect a rate increase — an hour of on-street parking will now cost $1.50. And for those who don't want to download another app, you have the option of calling a number that's posted on the sign to book your spot.
City parking decks will start using this system in the fall.
As previously reported by WFDD, officials from the Winston-Salem Department of Transportation say there will be a grace period before ticketing begins.
