Guilford County Schools is hosting several in-person events this week to register students for transportation.

The district is implementing changes to bussing next school year with a goal of improving efficiency.

According to district officials, GCS buses travel more than 40,000 miles daily. Some students ride over 90 minutes each way.  Additionally, there were around 11,000 students registered for transportation last year who didn’t actually ride the bus.

Because of those issues, district officials are making changes to bus routes and transportation service zones, and requiring students at certain schools to re-register.

Students can register for transportation at events this week, or online through the end of May.
