The Guilford County School Board is expected to appoint a new member Wednesday. It comes ahead of changes to the board's structure.

Eight people have applied to fill the vacant District 1 seat. The appointment will expire next year, when the school board undergoes redistricting and the number of members drops from 11 to nine.  The race will also become partisan.

The High Point Enterprise reports that Wednesday's meeting has been moved from Greensboro to High Point's Pruette SCALE Academy. The request to move the meeting came from District 2's Ed Price, High Point's other school board member.

The District 1 seat became open when Carlvena Foster was elected to the Guilford County Board of Commissioners last fall. She had served on the school board for six years.
