The Guilford County Board of Education will vote on a list of legislative priorities for the upcoming school year on Tuesday.
The list contains 18 requests. Some of them are monetary, like providing $5 million to Guilford County Schools to sustain a high-dosage tutoring program, where tutors meet with students in small groups multiple times a week.
The district is also requesting $2 million to continue the use of touchless security scanners at every school and $2.5 million for career and technical education.
Other priorities call for legislative changes, like providing a “substantial increase” in state-funded base pay for teachers. The district is also looking for local calendar flexibility and increases in state allocations for positions like psychologists, social workers and counselors.
The school board will vote on the approval of the list at their next meeting.
Guilford County representatives invited board members to share the final priorities with them on Feb. 24.
