A Guilford County school board member's Facebook post is drawing intense criticism and calls for her resignation.

Board member Anita Sharpe recently shared a video on her Facebook page. In it, retired Lt. General Thomas McInerney made wide ranging false claims touching on everything from the pandemic to the insurrection in the U.S. Capitol. It's been since taken off of Facebook and YouTube, although clips can still be found online.

The post has prompted some local activist groups and community members to call for Sharpe's resignation.

She declined an interview request with WFDD.

This isn't the first time that Sharpe has been in the hot seat. In 2017, she came under fire after an email she sent to a GCS employee went public about wanting to get the board to fire Superintendent Sharon Contreras.

Guilford County Board of Education Chair Deena Hayes-Greene says she's disappointed with Sharpe's post and the impact it has had on the community.

"We [as board members] need to be mindful of the power of our words and actions. I feel that was stepping over the lines of autonomy," Hayes says.

The board of education is scheduled to meet again on January 28.
