Pentagon officials have confirmed that the leader of al-Qaida's arm in North Africa Mokhtar Belmokhtar was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Libya over the weekend. He was notorious for taking hostages.

More than 120,000 people have fled unrest in Burundi. While there is currently no war in the East African nation, the fear of one has gotten residents to move to a refugee camp in neighboring Rwanda.

Protesters are marching against the president's plan for a third term. Some 100,000 refugees have fled. The fear is that one of the world's poorest countries could slip back into civil war.

Nearly 6,000 migrants were rescued after attempting to make it to Europe from North Africa. A British naval officer says there are indications that as many as 500,000 migrants could be waiting in Libya for the means to make the crossing.
