Antarctica's ice is melting faster than was thought, say scientists who recently completed the most exhaustive assessment of the ice sheet to date.

The dense dessert, found in one of Antarctica's first buildings, is believed to have been brought over in 1910 during the Terra Nova expedition of Robert Falcon Scott. It "looked and smelled edible."

It's said to be the first official wedding in Antarctic territory claimed by the U.K. They took photos outside in 15 degree temperatures after the ceremony, and then zipped away in a sno-cat vehicle.

Scientists say the iceberg is one of the largest seen by satellites. But the full implications of its separation off remain to be seen.

After the Internet voted to name a U.K. research vessel "Boaty McBoatface," the results were overruled. But, as a consolation gesture, the name was given to a remote-controlled submersible.

If the rift gets long enough, Antarctica will lose a chunk of ice the size of Delaware.

Noctilucent clouds, high-altitude clouds that appear to glow in the sky at night, usually show up in the Southern Hemisphere summer. Satellite images showed them covering Antarctica in early November.

The second man to walk on the moon fell ill during a trip to the South Pole and was flown to New Zealand. Aldrin is 86 years old.

Ball's Antarctic Tundra Beetle was small and brown, and it has been extinct for millions of years. The scientists who discovered it named it in honor of another beetle scientist's 90th birthday.
