The Taliban and Afghan government agreed to halt fighting for three days during the upcoming Eid al-Adha, a move that could renew momentum toward negotiations.

Trump has speculated the truce may be the beginning of the end of the war. Many have doubts. And in fact, this cease-fire may even be leading to more violence in other parts of Syria.

The nationwide cease-fire is to begin at midnight local time. Russia and Turkey will act as guarantors. The agreement does not include areas under the control of ISIS.
