Leaders of a national Christian medical group write that Christians who gather now could appear not to "care that we may be contributing to others getting this illness because of our selfishness."

The number of multiracial churches is growing in the United States, but the leaders of color who work in them still see attitudes of white supremacy.

"This trial, too, shall pass," Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I said. "But our lives will have changed forever." He asked parishioners to stay home for their own safety and the safety of others.

The decision of whether to cancel worship services depends on health considerations, government orders, and maybe even political leanings. Smaller churches face bigger problems.

"With stone carving, we give life to an edifice and perpetuate history. We're also creating a link with the past and transmitting values that are important to conserve in society," one student says.

On Easter, people will gather to pray in the cathedral, situated 600 feet underground in the Andean mining town of Zipaquirá. It was built in the caverns and tunnels left behind by salt miners.

Under the Obama Administration, immigrants with strong family and community ties were not prioritized for deportation. That has changed and now and some families are seeking refuge in churches.
