COVID-19 vaccines

Omicron has many more mutations than previous variants of concern, a fact that raises questions about how effective existing vaccines will be against the new form of the coronavirus.

Forsyth County Public Health Director Joshua Swift says hundreds of vaccination appointments for children between the ages of 5-11 this week are still unfilled.

Children between the ages of 5-11 are now eligible to receive Pfizer's COVID-19 shots, as of Tuesday.

Forsyth County is preparing to offer Pfizer COVID-19 shots to 5 to 11 year-olds when federal officials give the green light. That's expected to happen in the next few days. 

Cavuto, who is immunocompromised, encouraged viewers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 after announcing his own breakthrough infection. When he returned to the air, he brought their emails with him.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky also endorsed a mix-and-match approach to boosters that would be flexible for patients and health care providers.

The Food and Drug Administration also gave an OK to boosters that differ from the vaccine originally used to immunize people against COVID-19. A mix-and-match approach could ease the booster rollout.

The city of Winston-Salem is offering up to $1,000 to city employees who get their COVID-19 shots. 

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools reported on Monday the lowest weekly total of COVID-19 cases among students and staff since the school year began.
