U.N.-brokered talks to end the Syrian civil war are taking place in Geneva, but so far the warring sides won't even be in the same room together. NPR's Peter Kenyon updates Rachel Martin.

We've heard the numbers: Thousands of migrants and refugees are risking everything to get to Europe every day. Nearly a million people claimed asylum in the European Union just last year. But how are countries handling this influx?
