Recent forecasts for global growth have been ratcheted down, even as oil prices sink lower and put more money in consumers' wallets. Economists see several factors changing things.

The Rockingham County Board of Commissioners is looking into a moratorium on fracking.  A public hearing on the issue will take place at Monday's meeting in Wentworth.

A flight of television ads began Tuesday criticizing the Governor's support of fracking.  The air time was bought by the North Carolina Environmental Partnership.

Oklahoma set a state record last year with more than 5,000 earthquakes. This year, the state is poised to have even more. Now oil and gas regulators have taken notice and are working to curb them.

 

The Walnut Cove Board of Commissioners is taking a stand against fracking legislation passed last week by the General Assembly.

Local governments can't legislate against fracking.  A last minute bill came out of the General Assembly leaving no doubts that state government wants hydraulic fracturing in North Carolina.
