Andreas Lubitz is believed to have locked the pilot of the Germanwings Flight 4U 9524 out of the cockpit before deliberately putting the aircraft into a fatal descent.

The Duesseldorf prosecutor also said torn-up sick notes for the day of the crash supported that "preliminary assessment." He did not say what the illness was. Tuesday's crash killed 150 people.

In the wake of the apparently deliberate crash of a German airliner, carriers in Europe, the Middle East and Asia say they will emulate a U.S. rule requiring two people in the cockpit at all times.

One hundred fifty people are believed to have died when Germanwings Flight 4U 9525 crashed Tuesday. The passengers were from at least 15 countries, including the U.S., Iran and Israel.

The Marseille prosecutor said there is no evidence the Germanwings co-pilot's actions were a terrorist act. Passengers' screams can be heard before the final moments, he said. Death was immediate.
