The State Department announced that there were personal messages exchanged between Hillary Clinton and retired Gen. David Petraeus as well as 962 previously undisclosed emails relating to Libya.

The Italian navy found them in the hold of a smuggling boat off the Libyan coast, apparently killed by fuel fumes. More than 300 others were rescued.

Military and rescue teams are searching for survivors from the boat, which was initially estimated to have 600 people aboard.

As many as 600 people are believed to have been crowded into a fishing boat — including "100 in the hull," a U.N. official says.
