The sanctions mean that Russia has lost two more medals from its Sochi count. Some 200 athletes from Russia may compete at the Pyeongchang Games under a neutral flag.

The decision by the International Olympic Committee follows last year's McLaren report, which said more than 1,000 Russian athletes were involved in manipulating doping controls.

Larry Nassar, the former team doctor for USA Gymnastics, has admitted molesting seven girls. Well over 100 women and girls have accused him of sexual assault.

The World Anti-Doping Agency says the "enormous backup file" covers more than three years of testing data from the Moscow Laboratory. The database was reportedly provided by a whistleblower.

The gold medalist says Dr. Larry Nassar claimed he was giving her "medically necessary treatment." She says the abuse began on a team trip when she was 13 years old.

Scientists were worried about Zika at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. But a recent study found there was no evidence of the virus in athletes and staff. They did, however, find other viruses.

LA last hosted the Summer Games in 1984. The city had originally been bidding for the 2024 games, which will go to Paris instead.

Paris and Los Angeles are the only remaining contestants for 2024 after four other cities dropped out. The committee's decision means the 2024 loser can avoid mounting an arduous new bid for 2028.
