Savannah Phelan, 8, recently discovered a video that revealed her mother had been in jail — all while still pregnant with her. So, she took her mom to StoryCorps, well-equipped with questions.

5 N.Y. Corrections Officers Convicted Of Assaulting Rikers Inmate

A New York jury has found five corrections officers guilty of assaulting an inmate in 2012 at the Rikers Island jail complex. The beating left Jahmal Lightfoot with fractured eye sockets.

The Associated Press reports that 14 percent of criminal defendants are held on bail in New York City.
