Malaysia Finds Gravesites In Camps Used By People Smugglers

The gruesome discovery of the sites thought to contain dozens or possibly hundreds of remains of migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh, follows a similar find this month across the border in Thailand.

Malaysia Orders Navy, Coast Guard To Rescue Rohingyas At Sea

Prime Minister Najib Razak made the announcement via Twitter, a day after Indonesia joined Kuala Lumpur in agreeing to take in the refugees, most of whom have fled Myanmar.

The "boat people," as they've been called, have been stranded at sea for weeks with little food or water. Indonesia and Malaysia say they will take them in temporarily.

Migrants as their boat is towed away by a Thai navy vessel, in waters near Koh Lipe island, on Saturday. Thousands of Rohingya and Bangladeshis have been turned away by Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

At least 1,000 are still stranded offshore in rickety boats with little food or water. But so far, the governments of Southeast Asia have shown no willingness to let them come ashore.

As thousands of members of the persecuted minority flee Myanmar and Bangladesh on rickety boats, the rest of Southeast Asia is showing a distinct reluctance to take them in.

Migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh are on an abandoned boat drifting in the Andaman Sea close to Malaysia and southern Thailand on Thursday.

It comes a day after more than 1,000 Rohingya and Bangladeshis landed in the waters of Malaysia's Langkawi island, and after Indonesia said it would also turn back the migrants.

Hundreds Of Rohingya Refugees Rescued At Sea After Fleeing Myanmar

The Muslim minority has long been persecuted in the country also known as Burma. Many Bangladeshis were also rescued.

Thai policemen measure shallow graves in Songkhla province in southern Thailand on Saturday. Authorities say the 30 or so gravesites appear to contain remains of illegal migrants from neighboring Myanmar.
