The somber cold open from Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton set a cathartic tone for those upset by Tuesday's outcome. Dave Chappelle made his hosting debut with musical guest A Tribe Called Quest.

The sketch comedy show returned after months away, to an electorate on edge, and to an election that's hard to laugh at.

Bernie Sanders impersonator Larry David hosted the episode with a cameo from the senator himself. Sanders slipped in a main campaign message, while David jabbed at the candidate's cantankerous side.

The tour is being called "Tracy Morgan: Picking Up the Pieces" and is set to kickoff in Hammond, In. in February.

The former Virginia senator complained repeatedly in last week's debate he wasn't getting enough time. Now, he could be leaving the party altogether for a third-party run.

"You may have seen on the news I was in a terrible car accident a year ago. It was awful. But it also showed me how much love and support I have in this world," Morgan said in his opening monologue.
