Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools saw slight gains in reading proficiency last year,

With less than a week before the start of the new academic year, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has made some progress in filling teacher vacancies.

The program is designed to serve middle and high school students who have received out-of-school suspensions of up to ten days. Rather than spending that time at home, potentially unsupervised, students will have the option to continue learning in a separate classroom setting. 

Most of the construction work was completed in December. The next phase involves setting up water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater utilities, which should take about 90 days. 

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has a newly established foundation to support the district with additional funding.

The Winston-Salem Forsyth County Board of Education unanimously voted to provide end-of-year supplements of nearly $1,000 to all employees at a special meeting on Tuesday.
