The weather system previously known as Hurricane Debby was not quite done with parts of the U.S.

Debby's final chapter involves moving north and northeast from the Carolinas at a faster clip with soaking rains, flash flooding and the threat of tornadoes into the weekend. Tornadoes spawned by Debby have leveled homes and damaged a school. The death toll has risen to 8.

The National Weather Service anticipates a few more inches of rainfall Thursday afternoon and evening as Tropical Storm Debby’s center passes over the Triad. A flood watch will remain in effect through Friday night.

As Tropical Storm Debby lands in the Triad, officials say people should be prepared for flash flood events as heavy rainfall is expected throughout the region.

Tropical Storm Debby drenched coastal cities in Georgia and South Carolina, stirred up tornadoes and submerged streets with waist-high floodwaters Tuesday in what is just the beginning of a prolonged storm that could dump staggering rain totals of up to 25 inches.

Almost the entire state is considered abnormally dry or under drought conditions, according to the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council. 

Bitter cold is on the way for the Triad and High Country this weekend. An arctic cold front is moving across the state today bringing with it cold, dry, blustery arctic air that will pour into the region with temperatures falling throughout the afternoon.
